Teatro Arriaga Antzokia

The Arriaga Theatre is a public institution located in the heart of Bilbao. It has long been, and continues to be, one of the most important theatres in both the Basque Country and Spain. Built in 1890 and with a seating capacity of 1,200, the Arriaga Theatre is a cultural landmark of the city. The theatre has a permanent staff of 46 and collaborates each season with around 70 freelance professionals, including artists and technicians. We are dedicated to producing and sharing extraordinary stories. Under the artistic direction of internationally acclaimed Calixto Bieito—recipient of the European Culture Award—the Arriaga has recently presented and co-produced works by renowned creators such as Romeo Castellucci, Declan Donnellan, Simon Stone, Lia Rodrigues, Pascal Rambert, Barbora Horáková Joly, Erna Ómarsdóttir, Burkhard C. Kosminski, Lucía Lacarra, and Tatjana Gürbaca. Each season, the theatre hosts around 200 performances and welcomes over 150,000 audience members who attend shows live at the venue.
